Grass sat

This app was mentioned in the farmers weekly, anyone using it?

The article said introductory offer £20 for two months? That's £120 a year if it stayed at that price (I didn't miss maths.....!)

I'm a tiny bit sceptical that it can work as accurately as a stroll with the plate meter but just measuring for the cows takes about a hour a week.

Any thoughts? 10+ downloads so far so its not flying out the play store.....

I've looked at it. Would have a go if it was a free trial.

I think it was £30/month for my acreage.
I did ask a couple of questions via email, which I tend to find a waste of time in the agric sector. No reply as yet.

We use one soil, it's free and is ok, but, what I've noticed is that there's not that many cloud free days, so how many days are you meant to get Grass sat?

I remember when someone was trying to get someone to help fund this.

After the presentation they were asked a few questions, and apparently they were struggling to make it work when it was cloudy. I became somewhat less interested when it wouldn't work for 6+ months of the year here, and potentially be very patchy for the rest.

I don't know if, or how, they have overcome that though.

The photos for my area are 7 years old and it’s saying a field has good all over vegetation cover on 27th feb 2020 yet definitely doesn’t as is winter wheat. Get the feeling it’s just tricking farmers into giving them data about farm sizes etc.

Thanks, I couldn't quite see how it would work, I suppose if it was the difference between measuring nothing and grass sat you would probably see a benefit?

The difference between plating every 5 days and just using grass sat may be negative, if they offer me a free trial I'd do both and see how it compares?!

I think if you ring them they probably would offer a free trial - we had something free thought I can't remember the duration. The last cloud free image on ours is 29 June last year, so I'm a bit dubious. We signed up at the tail of last year to have only plate metered once since then but I get the impression to really make it work you have to plate meter periodically, and also add in all your grazing/cutting activity, just like Agrinet. The jury is still out here, we will give it a proper go now that we are grazing again, but I've yet to be convinced.

Thanks, will be interesting to see how you get on?

I think I might stick to plate meter and agrinet for this season unless someone pops up and says its brilliant! I do enjoy a walk around anyway, just concerned the end of my plate meter will get stuck at the moment

I don't see it replacing a platemeter really how can it if it only works on clear days? Would be handy if it does work though especially for those doing it every week.
Btw I started a thread on grass measuring and things if anyone is interested. Was hoping it would turn into a tff grazing group but it's gone a bit quiet. It's called what's your AFC in the livestock section.
