I think I'd pass another time!!!..... I know, they were cheap and you get what you pay for!
Anyone pleased with their screenings , (expensive mistake)/cheap grass seeds? One things for certain there is FA grass come where I spread these.
Mine haven't grown either, there still in the shed.:)

What little of mine I've used, were sprinkled on the ground & rolled into trampled patches. Nothing grew for ages, as it was so cold & dry, then we had 2" of rain overnight and it has warmed up a little and there are quite a few seedlings about now. I was considering DD'ing some into some old/tired swards to liven hem up a bit until I can reseed them properly, just waiting for the opportunity to do it.

think if sold under trade names there were a few guys selling seed years ago under "brand names" can't recall what it cost

bush burn mixes tend to be split bags out of date clover coatings skinned seeded light weight , off types , rejected export they may contain "brand name "

seen a few lines of uncerted rye that grows very much like some brand name types ,

Is it ever worth the risk. Save on seed, but same cultivation cost, time out of production etc.. Don't know whether you have sown a one year mix or permanent pasture. Might have clover might not. Even for patching in gateways using the correct mix is pretty important IMHO.

ummmm have to say no all marketing bull5hit have seen trials where brand X beats Y beats Z a lot of yeild charts over lap tend to be growen in better areas in some areas i have seen a cheep public annual grow just as well as a brand worth 3-4 times the price

one year mixes i would realy be looking at what you are buying at 3-4 times the price for some annuals any extra feed could be costing higher than brought in feeds and the wise use of that price diffrence in ferts could lead to better returns

perm mixes yes worth paying a bit more but buying things needed low rust animal friendly endo's low pest attack etc etc

gate ways burn mixes native hills etc etc to be fair cheep's good .. if i over sow on a burnt area most of the times it's VNS seeds or 2nd's

Out of interest JD-Kid, what do you mean by a 'burnt area'? Do you have bracken and gorse/whins, same as we do, which you can set fire to and be left with practically bare ground? Or do you mean burnt off with weedkiller eg Roundup?

gorse areas mainly tend to go in spray then year /18 months later burn off toss on seed .. kinda limited in seed types as gorse will need spraying again and again so more cocksfoots etc

one area they put alot of clover/ alfalfa in a trial idea being fast grazeing times and shadeing of seedlings ( it was also flat so could mow it ) so don't know if it would work on hills that well

we use tordon which is grass safe hence grass based mixes
