Was a bit worried about them as turned wet after they were sown. Just kept growing but that was last year and this is this yr 🤷‍♂️ Just finished sowing/rolling the last of this yrs reseeds just now

In my opinion late summer established grass is much better than undersown. We normally try and put it in after winter barley.

last yrs sept sown stuff looks great and not a weed to be seen. Think we’ve sown grass most months since April and most but not all are full of all matter of weeds.

Spring sown grass is fine if you know your land will hold moisture and you get reliable rain. I've only had 1 notable failure due to serious dry weather and that was about 12 acres on one farm. At least in spring you can choose your moment and get the seed bed right in good weather. Spray the weeds out of it when the grass has 2-3 leaves.

It went into dust 3 weeks ago and last night was the first rain it’s seen and that didn’t amount to much

Perfect.

I have seen hundreds of acres established with a harrow + box seeder thing. I view them as being better than actually drilling the stuff in many situations. Having said that, I think a vaderstad rapid cultivator drill might be one of the best ways of establishing grass.
Funny you say that I have 14 acres going direct into stubble with a Vad in 2 passes. Will keep you posted

Vaddy is the preferred option here, drilled twice 👍🏻
