i bet that 25% bit looks good thoThanks, seed isn’t cheap and it’s being done because last years seeding failed horrendously due to running short of seed after doing 25% of the field

6 acre of stubble turnips all went in the 12m round the field, then expensive grass seed put in the middle instead of putting it in the fields destined for grass so only a few acre of 12acre was the good seed and they filled the rest with “old seed in the shed” which came to f-all. Different contractor doing it this time, new contractor sowed 15 acre of turnips for me last year at another farm and he gave me seed back never had that before, those 5kg left over will go in this year
Good idea.best investment I’ve made is put a camera in the hopper to see what’s going on. Machine or operator failure?
How is your grass coming? Mine has improved a lot in the last few days. First photo was taken on the 7th of May and the second on the 17thOr just put a couple bags in at at a time.

I've found calibration pretty pointless with grass seed. Only sown it with a opico and einbock so perhaps drills.or calibrate it
Still not very clever. Went over with grass harrow again and gave it another 5kg/acre.How is your grass coming? Mine has improved a lot in the last few days. First photo was taken on the 7th of May and the second on the 17th View attachment 961678View attachment 961679
I've got a field here that the contractor did 4 times with an tine Harrow. Germination is now all over the shop as the first lot of seed has been Harrowed in to deep, I cant stress the importance of not putting small seed in to deep. Just a very light Harrow. Bend those times right back and keep the wheels down
Sorry if I'm preaching to the converted
I was going to graze mine down and overseed too but I am hoping I don't need to nowStill not very clever. Went over with grass harrow again and gave it another 5kg/acre.
I always roll before as wellAlways preferred creating a firm cambridge rolled surface and broadcasting twice over at right angles then covering with chain harrows on their backs if it was for more than a 1 year ley.
This years grass seed ran really fast. Was at setting 25 which is usually 10kg/acre. Same mixture as previous years.
I've sowed hundred of acres of grass seed in my time always surprises ??? Me when same mixture as last year sows totally differently and yes I know I should re calibrate it every timeThis years grass seed ran really fast. Was at setting 25 which is usually 10kg/acre. Same mixture as previous years.
