Grazing After Dectomax

Aye-up,

After using a drench I like to leave the sheep in their existing paddock for a couple of days then move them to a paddock that hasn't been grazed for several weeks.

How long after injecting Dectomax should I leave them before moving? If at all?

Cheers, Pete.

Do they have scab, or have they come in contact with any sheep that might have?:scratchhead: I certainly wouldn't treat them 'just in case' and I wouldn't consider using Dectomax for anything but scab treatment these days anyway.

On the turning back to a dirty field (for worms), the idea of putting them back out is to reinfect them with a few susceptible worms, to dilute the resistant worms that will still be in the sheep. In the case of Dectomax, all they can do is pick up more resistant worms. Dectomax has a persistent effect, so any susceptible worms picked up from that dirty field, will be killed off anyway. For that reason, I wouldn't be too concerned about turning them back onto the field at all.

Just going on advice with the scab thing. No scab here or anywhere else we deal with.

There really is no need, if there is no source of infection anywhere near. I haven't done mine for years, apart from one group of fattening lambs that were next door to someone's lambs that did get it (he bought a handful of stores in IIRC). Jabbed and moved them, just in case, and before they spread anything to the rest of the flock.

I think the idea of jagging with Dectomax 'just in case', harks back to the days of scab dipping. It's just not necessary and does nothing but accelerates worm resistance.
