Green Deal solar

been having this argument over a project now for nearly 2 Years. As always left and right hand don’t talk at national level.

our local council has Signed up to carbon neutral etc etc but utterly clueless what that actually means and how they will do it. Consultants speak to those in charge and they refer to Energy saving light bulbs!

no wind here, mostly green belt so their options are very limited yet they still give grief and stack the odds against you by insisting on and commisiong their own reports from ‘experts’ who do little more than spurt waffle!

we are heading into an energy disaster, those pushing for EV and the greens still haven’t worked out how the grid works!

Too much funky envirospeak from PC, Right-On Councillors, of all shades.

A local Council, not far from me, decided 2 years ago that they wanted Chargers putting all over the town and instructed the minions to make it work. Said minions pointed out that a Charger was a bit more than a few 13amp sockets, scattered around car parks. My mate did the costings for cabling infrastructure and charge points which was eye wateringly expensive. Not been done yet....

Talk to anyone involved in electric distribution and they will shake their heads in disbelief at the rush to EV without proper infrastructure being done. Cannot recall now the town, but think it was in the NW, 2-3 local folks crashed the grid, drawing too much power for car charging at the same time.

from what I hear batteries just aren’t there yet?

if we get a dull, wind free few days in the winter when it’s -5 in the morning the National Grid Poo their pants.

having a whole load of EV’s calling for power at the same time is going to make for an interesting time!

Yep!

Just started discussions again, for a small gas powered Peak Gen plant here. Gotta keep the world turning!! :)

i could bore you to tears of anger and frustration on this topic! What size plant?

hearing recently of the behind the scenes discussions that go on within the energy sector and NG, if joe public knew there would be genuine long term concern.

ignorants is bliss eh!

Sussing out the recently arrived gas line capacity at the moment.

DNO was dubious 18 months ago, but I believe they are happy now that the peak gen can feed into the Grid only when the PV output is down (night) or at reduced capacity.

Time will tell if its a goer.

just had chance to watch video.
what complete rubbish he talks with little knowledge it seems of the real world.
it would appear all vehicles are running an average distance each day and all vehicles having access to over night charging. The truth is most vehicles do extremely irregular running and most likely do the bulk of their mileage in one or two weeks of the year, on holiday.
How does he get over the street parking issue? 200 metre long armoured cables perhaps to come with each charger, so it will reach up the street to where the car is parked, and dont foget to warn the grannies about the loose cables running everywhere.
What about the August bank holiday rush to the coast, motorway service areas with hundredsof cars queuing for a top up to get to the end of the M3.
dont forget most conventionally fuelled cars today have a range of 4-500 miles, my own SUV 650 whereas even Tesla’s max out around 250.
EVs are not going to be Taking over quite yet, but the infrastructure has got to be put in place BEFORE we get to this point. It may be though that other technology may be possible and the investment of billions will be wasted.
If we put HGVs into the equation too combined it with a mid summer high and the wind is producing next to nothing, just time your holiday stops to midday and grab the solar!

Can you run it on the essence of BS. that exudes from many so called green campaigners?

Can run on anything as far as I'm concerned, as long as it stacks up financially!

I read this t'other day.

Loved the PCspeak, "the British Army’s current equipment programme may be the last to rely on fossil fuels" and "Nugee’s review is set to be published in December this year will cover the MOD’s NZ50 (net zero 50) strategy and set a baseline for ‘defence’s emissions and carbon footprint.’"

Do they not understand that the hybrid still runs on oil.... I can just imagine the issue as the Russian (legacy) tanks come piling over the Border, and out brave lads are waiting for a charge to get the EV's going....

Lucky man, that looks like a fun car, Tesla performance with German quality build

i have just seen the Renault Zoe comes in a commercial version, very tempted as this could be a business expense.

For price reference I purchased 44kw of ground mount solar for ~30k. We prepared the site and laid the concrete ballast. Just caught the end of tariff around 5p plus export.

You would still get export on your solar. There are also tariffs like octopus agile tariff that pays you to charge your car when there is excess energy in the grid

Careful on export the ratings offices countrywide are using planning permission lists to start asking people for rates on the panels if you export.

'By 2030, within 10 years of regulatory approval of fully autonomous
vehicles, 95% of all U.S. passenger miles will be served by transport-as-
a-service (TaaS) providers who will own and operate fleets of autonomous
electric vehicles providing passengers with higher levels of service, faster
rides and vastly increased safety at a cost up to 10 times cheaper than
today’s individually owned (IO) vehicles. These fleets will include a wide
variety of vehicle types, sizes and configurations that meet every kind of
consumer need, from driving children to hauling equipment.'

'Our analysis shows that after 500,000 miles, the batteries of A-EVs will still retain
80% of their capacity, which could be reused for grid storage. With 4 million A-EVs retiring annually, the surplus
battery power could add 200 GWh of electricity storage to the grid each year. For comparison, the U.S. had
24.6 GW of energy storage in 2013.'

im thinking the car (s) could be used as a power store for solar on days it’s not being used and pimp power into the grid

a car that earns you cash when not being used ? i have. friend who works for a company that are going to provide such contracts
I have an EV but I wouldn't want to use it for vehicle to grid yet.
