Greening

If you are undecided on a rotation and out say 20ha down for cover crops as you aren’t sure which fields will be what. Can you only plant 10ha (which meets greening requirement) and be ok or will they want the 20ha

We genuinely don’t have to worry about greening? I haven’t seen anything about that?
sorry , my bad, didnt wish to mislead...just the 3 crop rule is not being applied this time,

cut and paste....
Crop diversification rules removed for BPS 2020 but EFA and permanent grassland rules still apply
This means that if you are unable to plant the required combination of arable crops, you will not be penalised.

You must still complete your BPS application, either online using the Rural Payments service or on paper using the BPS application form (BP5). You must still declare all of your arable land using the appropriate crop codes.

When the applications are processed, we will not apply the crop diversification rules to determine eligibility for the BPS greening payment. However, you will still need to meet the rest of the greening rules:

  • maintaining at least 5% equivalent area of ecological focus area if you have more than 15 ha of arable land
  • following the rules for the management of permanent grassland.

if youre under 15ha its happy days ....:)

So can you over declare on cover crops but not plant all you have declared? If you still meet greening will that be ok?

If you've declared it you have to plant it. We still have to do the usual Greening this year - it's only the 3 crop rule that was slackened. What else can you enter as EFA? Most of mine was hedges & buffer strips last year for minimal effort. The boss doesn't like me farming right up to the hedge, even wide ones, so it's a no brainer.

Never done cover crops before last winter.
Do you declare cover crop that you intend sowing after harvest now or do you declare the cover crop sown last autumn, now in a spring cash crop??
