Greenstar drift

We've got a 6000 dome running sf1 that's getting a lot of drift if you sit still for 5 mins for eg if you stop to fill with seed it can be 10 to 15cm off when you get back in.
As long as you're working away if one side it's consistent with it's width but if you stop or try to miss a few widths it can be off a bit .
It was fine in the spring time and our other 3000 is still ok as far as I know but to be fair I've not been using it recently.

Any ideas ?? Tia .

The gist of it is that your not using a drift free correction. So performance (unsurprisingly) will vary based on conditions. In the words of Dirty Harry; do you feel lucky...? (I leave out the punk bit)

No matter what folks tell you, anecdotally or if they’re trying to flog you something, there is only one true “drift free” correction - it begins with an R and ends with a K.

Either
  1. Put up with it, make sure your receiver & screen are updated regularly and just hang the drill marker out on your last run before stopping so you can nudge it back again when you get back or
  2. Open your wallet and upgrade to SF3 or RTK.
Even SF3 drifts a bit though only over a few weeks or months.

The man that pays the bills is more than happy on sf1 I'm just simply asking if there's anything changed . I'll try updating it as it's not been done since it's previous owner had it.

as above your first port of call is to upgrade to latest software , I think this can be done yourself, the downloads are on the john deere website
Also are you running the correct frequency (not default) ?

The man that had it before had it on sf3 and was not happy so that is why he sold it and RTK is the only way to go
Some folk are more picky than others tho ;) .
As said it's grand as long as you're going all the time and working off one side it's consistently the same it's just if you stop for seed etc as long as you park it on 0 cm just centre it again.
It's just noticeably worse this backend than in the spring drilling was .

I've been intending to try sf3 starting it halfway across a decent sized field but every time we've been drilling it's just been a case of covering acres before rain so no time to faff around measuring and checking again so it'll have to wait till spring now .

We just could not get on with it at all for our job ,if we had never used RTK on the 939 then it may have been ok ,but the price they wanted to up grade and make it work in the 724 on RKT was a none starter, very happy with our Trimble systems on RTK

Each to they're own but I honestly can't see how unless it didn't work well through the steering valve arrangement. I've put in tramlines for burning off grass etc and never missed a but when it's died so they work well enough same with the drilling it's more than good enough for us

SF1 is fine for pass to pass accuracy. I used to spray at 30m with a 30m boom and it was fine with no misses unless I went away & filled up part way through a field. SF2 on a 3000 was better and SF3 on a 6000 better still. You get what you pay for.

Out of interest do you get any / much bother with Trimble systems there's a lad in a fendt down this way will spend as much time driving it himself as the auto steer does?

Exactly it's the out the field or stopped for a while that gives you the bother which is easily sorted with about markers so sf1 is fine for us just now and we have the capability to go to 3 if we want to at some point but with a 4m drill our tramlines are close enough for my boss so he's happy and with the new sprayer any overlapping is taken care of with the individual nozzle control and we spread granular fert so it'll be miles off regardless of tramline width so it'll not matter what accuracy were on :D(y)

The Fendt you are referring to is also equipped with the Trimble receiver but with which correction signal option?

Any option can go wrong, the RTK signal may get lost if delivered via a crappy cellular network. Also if delivered via radio but from too far or behind hills etc. Rangepoint and others delivered via satellite can also go wrong if low elevation visibility towards south is blocked. The latter is usually difficult to fix, the others can be fixed.
