Greenstar drift

The man that pays the bills is more than happy on sf1 I'm just simply asking if there's anything changed . I'll try updating it as it's not been done since it's previous owner had it.

I guess updating software is most often a good idea (as long as you have given others time to verify that the update has no serious new bugs). But I cannot see why something like SF1 or SF3 drift would really be getting worse over time unless there is a "Trimble like" change in correction signal delivery where the old SW completely misses the correction signal.

If it was better in the spring time, perhaps because of less foliage or something like that?

Doubtful about foliage etc I was drilling on top of a big hill last week no trees for 1/4 mile and stopped for 5 mins to fill and when I jumped back in it was 15 cm off the line in the spring it would have been 5 at most over that time

Really? From the symptoms you've described he certainly isn't getting an RTK correction signal.
Yes guaranteed RTK now I think about it I'm not so sure of receiver make but I know it's RTK. But again I've no interest in his I was simply asking the Fendt guru out of interest.

Without wanting to turn this into a VarioGuide support thread...

I ran a Topcon engined (AGI-4) receiver for around 5 years, on RTK, without any issues - both NTRIP and the internal UHF radio. So I’m reasonably well versed with the ins and outs of them.

The main gripe I had was that as AGCO / Fendt decided in 2015 to bring steering control (once again) back in house and off the receiver, as it was with AGI-4 based VarioGuide, they decided to slowly drop future feature support on the Topcon based systems. I can sort of understand why they did this, but as a user your faced with a choice to stand still or fairly major hardware upgrade.

Thus new features like Contour Assist are only available going forward on units that have in-house VD03 steering control (read Trimble and NovAtel receivers).

The basic Topcon receiver is I reckon a solid receiver (albeit getting a bit long in tooth now). The main features it lacks is a proper “fallback“ facility like Trimble have with xFill and of course the Trimble specific features like being able to hang off an encrypted Trimble sCMRx base.

I use Trimble Centrepoint Fast on NAV 900 receiver and GFX 750 screen and it is almost as good as RTK. No significant drift over winter for example. Probably not good enough for inter-row hoeing, but for arable operations I would recommend it.

Never seen CenterPoint in action but according to the specs, the accuracy is amazing. Could you give an indication about the cost? I previously made a mistake when comparing RangePoint with RTK, would like to avoid it here. I thought RTK would most often be less expensive than CenterPoint? I understand RTK does not have a single price figure but one can figure it out locally (or private base owners would know it well).

Lad next door was on centrepoint, he’s planning on moving to our mast now he’s got a new tractor with RTK radio, I’m sure he said centrepoint was £1200ish last year.
