I don’t think he actually knows what the word means, and he certainly doesn’t know what a “?” is for. I’ve given up on correcting him on those though, on the basis that English is probably not his first language, but there is certainly no excuse for basic due diligence.

Mind you, maybe a lithium mine looks worse?

Can you find any pics of a lithium mine @Still Farming ?

Except it’s not. It’s a copper mine in Chile. Well done for failing to fact check and spreading misinformation - keep that up and you’ll get a job working for Boris.
If only it were that simple.

That other great requisite for efficient li ion batteries is cobalt, a mineral that was always regarded as a by product of copper and nickel mining. Should the demand for cobalt become so strong that copper and nickel become a by product of cobalt extraction then that image could well become rather symbolic of the great waste that are EVs, besides which the great push for electrification is going to increase the demand for copper as well.

Except cobalt is not a “requisite” of Li ion batteries any more. True, many use it, but it’s not requisite.

Silicone is the next stage in high output batteries, technology changing all the time. All these minerals have to be mined in some way or another, they certainly aren’t using battery power to mine it so it’s very extraction is creating huge amounts of co2. Still, the in-laws supply glencore with a lot of their machinery so can’t complain to much. [emoji23]
