Grimme SE 70-20 vs 75-20/30/40

Hello,

Looking at purchasing another Grimme harvester for potatoes. Currently have a SL 750 which is getting on.

I believe the SL 750 may not have been offered in the UK, but its rear semi ring elevator has been problematic at times. I am looking for something more efficient at digging and simpler design.

A local grower has a 70-20 which seems a smaller version of the 75-20/30/40 machines. It ticks many boxes and is lighter for when the weather turns wet for an extended period. I don't have many fields with long runs so a 2 ton bunker would do.

How does the separation on the 70 stack up to the 75 series?

My current machine has the bunker swivelling up to unload, but I see the 75 machines bunker lifts up completely off the chassis. Does the 70-20 swivel up or lift completely, and does it get good height into trailers?

Is the 70 machine much simpler to maintain than the 75 series?

Thanks in anticipation

Hi, you don't say how many ha, soil type, tractor but regardless I wouldn't buy a 70
We had one, too narrow at front when wet, they have plain roller/ star rolls at the top of the second web, constant probs as too light to stand lots of soil/ stone. Also the second separator belt overshot the picking band...if a lot of stone / clods then potatoes go straight over.
The 75 were much better, we had one bagger ,one bunker, silly rake they put between second web and pintle belt to fill a gap was a pain.
The 85 is leagues ahead, wide tyres made it no harder to pull, better feed, but not so happy downhill.
Now have AVR, four seasons old, absolutely love it, easier to work on ,adjust, keep an eye on. All bearings and housings are standard off the shelf, feed better, halved the maintanence costs, cheaper second hand. DON,T buy a Grimme without checking them out😁

Thanks Ruston. Growing 10ha annually and looking to grow beetroot as a new venture probably a few acres. The 70 looks to be gentler than a 75? Soil is alluvial floodplain sandy to some heavier. No stones.

Usually harvest with an MF 399.

Cheers

Not really sure if 70 would be any gentler?
I'm thinking all 70's have the rubbish roller separator after elevator web? No stones wil help there but it didn't cope very well with mud either.
All the bunkers have an unfortunate habit of tilting back as they lift, obviously the higher you lift to unload the more drop you get due to the angle of the floor.
The last Grimme we had(85-55) had a tilting section about 30" long which was effectively like a swan neck for unloading....that worked well, the only bit I miss as AVR don,t do one
Not sure if I,be been any help, feel free to ring me if you think I can add anything.
How many 70's sold in this country? Or even SE singles altogether? 10-12?

Thanks Ruston. I'm in Australia. Alot of single row machines here. We had a local built machine with star rollers, was gentle but struggled to handle the mud as well, although it did get through it.

Not alot of used machines here either to pick from in my buying range.
