What about putting a red clover/grass ley in? Bagged N is one of the main costs to a cutting ley if you don’t have slurry to go back on plus you’ll get better summer quality and growth with red clover in a dry area. We put in 80ac as a trial 18 months ago and so far much prefer it to an Italian cutting ley.

If there is blackgrass involved in the equation, do not attempt to grow a red clover ley.
