You dont need a stripper header.

Generally cut for hay in year 1. Harvest for seed in year 2.

Needs to be of high purity ie no random ryegrass growing in it. Suits cleaner fields as obviously weed grasses can be a problem.

Not certain, but think cutting it with a mower and then picking up with draper header is one method.

Doing about 70 acres here and increasing as a good break crop - swinging more to italians as this is an ex dairy farm and they are a pain to spot spray out. Spreads harvest out and we use a stripper header as we have seen the horrors of mown grass rain and regrowth and mowing again - cousin direct cuts a lot but thinking of getting one as well. margin prob on par with wheat - we have a livery yard and they love it for the horses as they don't get too fat and round bale the rest for haylage ( mow the field 1-2 days after stripping ) Dry using drainage pipe on floor into the air tunnel and a space heater after the initial dampness has gone.
