Gs4 mixes yield?

I’m very interested in having some gs4 mixes for mid tier scheme. The payment looks very attractive and I like the idea of soil conditioning. At the moment we have 2 year Italian ryegrass leys grazed in winter and till 1sr April then cut 3 times using 86kgs of N per cut. How many acres will I need to make same amount of tons of silage. I appreciate the quality will be better but we want bulk in the clamp

GS4 is more of a multi species mix isn't it?! Im putting around 35 acres in this autumn as part of our mid tier and haven't quite got round to properly looking at mixes on offer currently. Am I right in thinking they can be grazed as well as cut but need to be left between April and the end of May unstocked or cut? I would imagine yield would be lower than your Italian leys but at a quick glance they are still 60-70% ryegrass so shouldn'tbe drastically lower.

How much fertiliser can you put on these mixes? I should think any fertiliser would mean the dominant species in it just snuff out the included riff-raff? Festulolium in amongst that lot? Cripes, it makes no sense.

It makes perfect sense. Festuloliums haven’t revolutionised pastures and won’t be selling in the volumes anticipated. Best outlet for all that seed is to chuck a bit in every mix to bulk it up.;)

If you chuck enough stuff in the mixture something will surely find it’s feet in amongst the weeds, giving a diverse sward ......which is presumably the aim under the enviro schemes.

So long as the radon hasn't killed everything first!

Daft question but is the £309/hectare payment on top of or in place of the £185 or so non sda payment? Just to clarify...

You have to rest them for five weeks but is it five consecutive weeks?
