Very good short film. I'm not too sure how much of it is relevant to our 'improved' grasslands but mucho respect to them and their beautiful landscape.

I agree that we could do something similar to make us more relevant to today's environmentally aware public, we could really push our case and 'sell' the good we do/ could do better with support.

Actually well-managed permanent pasture with good legume and herb content can be hugely diverse in plants, fungi, birds and mammals as well as sequestering carbon. It can be a much richer ecosystem than many British woodlands.

I can't find the link just now but earlier this year a paper came out where the researchers had looked at the carbon sequestration achieved in managed woodland planted on permanent pasture and on arable land or replanting forestry after harvesting. They found that there was a net emitting of carbon for the first 10 to 15 years where trees were planted on grassland which was barely compensated by the trees as they matured!

yes under concrete its gone for a fair while .
mind you forever is a long time.
me and the missis was only saying the other day how theres crazy numbers of housebuilding going on around here ,like never before.
Only saying that soon remote ish byroads will be full not only of traffic but of dog walkers etc , sure enough on Monday morning ii was of down over to go out the road gate and a women with a dog comes on off the road , so i said you cant walk in here its private property and sheep are in the next field so she says ,oh well there wasn't a sign on the gate saying keepout or a chain and lock... :banghead:

flabbergasted the only reply i could muster was do you want every field gate in the countryside with signs on and locked and chained.. ffs :confused:
She was like alot of the others around now ,a pure townie with no knowledge or interest in the countryside that we bust a gut to maintain as well as earn enough.
Theyre not country people thats for sure.
