Guess the offence

Reminds me of a cousin who complained about the size of tractors now that driving through the village she lives in. I pointed out she drives an SUV that is wider than the 'big' Volvo estate they had decades ago when they had children to ferry about and that nature of their village and the shear number of street parked cars means that it is a difficult enough to drive through in just a car.

I can't imagine them all switching to cars the size of an origional mini to help make walking or driving through their village nicer.

The problem with todays legislation is there is so much of it! It is almost impossible not to knowingly or unknowingly break some law on a daily if not hourly basis... Perhaps the load is not secured "properly" but to me it appears to be secured adequately for transport at agricultural speeds if driven appropriately. If Norfolk police want to make roads safer they should be far more clear in the specifics of the alleged offences and provide guidance on what is required in order to comply with the relevant legislation, not just add further confusion. Most confusing is the twitter response that seems to say this load is legal in the context of moving your own machines between fields but in this case it is illegal because of the context in which it is travelling?

Most annying part of cars on the road round here is most people have a garden that could easily have a park space made in it or a lot of people who already have there own car parking just park on the road as it’s easier than reversing into there driveways

To be fair I saw a lorry yesterday with a teleporter on the back and I think it would have been correct to have pulled him up. Just two straps across on a flat bed! Hope he was not going far.

Half an hour on the internet (looking at the Government websites not at what some keyboard barrister says) will answer most of your questions.

The phrases highlighted in your post are matters of opinion, and the law can only deal with facts

I dare say the outfit needs a beacon because I would expect it to be over 2.55m wide.

You don’t need much of a set of tyres on anything these days to be over 2.55m

But you make a good point and it annoys me slightly that every machine on the road seems to have twin beacons flashing at all times.
Right PITA, and takes away from actual "problem" loads being highlighted. Trailers with high power flashing LEDS on the rear door should be bloody banned!

I get what you are saying and when in doubt it is of course sensible but even if you spent half an hour on the internet checking the legalities of every action you do it it would still be easy to miss something!

For those transporting on road this is a useful read though..

One take away I took is the strap preventing forward movement needs to be rated equal or greater than the weight of the load it secures.. There are straps and there are straps, a 5000kg strap would be fine for a small van but would be insufficient for securing a 6T JCB.
