Guy Smiths steps down from Red Tractor

Or just switching seats on the merry-go-round and take up a position on AIC?

I actually thought he was very good at the NFU and would have been a much better president than Minette.

I do pray that the 'personal reasons' are not health related.
Health sprung to my mind too.

I hope not, especially since the vultures on here will have made up every false reason under the sun.

Maybe he has been trying to implement change from within and found he’s getting nowhere.
Over the long term he has been one of the good guys, have long thought he’d make a great NFU president but that wasn’t to be, I’m not a fan of RT but it needs someone to stand up for farmers.

I’d like to wish him well for the future and good health, would be great to see him back working on the side of ordinary working farmers.

I would think he was seen as the farmer's friend until he joined the dead tractor and he hasn't liked being forced to work against the interests of those he previously represented.

As someone else has said, he was hoping to change RT for the better and came up against a brick wall.

Good luck to him anyway

Red Tractor are not the farmers' friend - Red Tractor are in it for themselves and to enrich themselves no matter how they structure their business around "promoting agriculture", everyone needs to remember that.

They have not added a bean of value to anyone's business yet. If they did then they would have our bank details not vice versa. Red Tractor in effect run a highly abusive and coercive operation - and if we haven't kicked up as much fuss as people have you can be assured the hydra is going to get a whole lot worse - with no scrutiny.
