To clarify;

Using gypsum/waste plasterboard for bedding is illegal

https://webarchive.nationalarchives...S_039_Gypsum_in_animal_bedding_March_2012.pdf

However, shredded paper from plasterboard reprocessing is legal, although the sample should be carefully checked to make sure that it is just the backing paper. Although, as with any enclosed spaces, measures should be in place to ensure human and livestock safety.

Waste shredded paper and cardboard, dried paper sludges and plasterboard backing paper, can all be used for animal bedding.
As these are considered wastes, a waste exemption must be registered before using them.

I hope this clarifies the position.

Please ensure that you recieve a properly processed product and have the right exemptions in place - I have attached Envirofarm Livestock Bedding information sheet which was formulated in conjunction with the Environment Agency which gives you the correct guide and processes that need to be in place.
