H beam/ upright column repair?

Call that a hole! Had to cut 2 foot square hole around upright. Break concrete down 8 inches. Sandblast. Welded plates in both sides of gusset and on both faces. Paint and re concrete. Wrapping them in concrete won’t stop the rot.

I did a barn 30 years ago with L plate then long rag bolt glued in. It still stands

You didnt get carried away with your L brackets Been better to have then 10x longer up the stanchion and somewhere nr the same thickness.

8mm plate 300mm up both sides of the stanchion with 75mm angle welded in between the web and onto the flat plate , the two end columns 600mm up one side of the upright with angle welded between the web
