Numerous farmers around here buying in straw and hay-silage just to keep enough about rather than worrying if it does run out totally
In another month or two , historically plenty of grain about with neighbours being in an arable area which seems a silly thing to say when some are buying in straw.

That was Candlemas Day, still didn't have half then, second load of bought in forage coming this week.
One of my dad's favourite sayings went something like this : "If Candlemas day be bright and clear, then half the winter still to fear. If Candlemas day be clouds and rain , winter has gone and will not come again".
(Total BS of course! )

Most of our cattle were housed in early October this winter so if valentine's day is half way through we'll still have cattle inside in june :eek::eek:

I think we're going to be OK for fodder but only just. Less than half the silage left now, might have to buy a bit in at the end. (n)

Still 200 bales of straw and 200 of silage. About 1/3 way through for 30 sucklers. (y)

I'm proud of you all, and embarrassed by myself.
Not one mention of oats yet.:playful::playful:

Same ideas as Groundhog Day. Punksutawney Phil said we have another six weeks of winter yet.

One pit almost empty, just over one bay in other pit and two bays in the other pit, fodder going down fast, bought a load of hay to stretch it out a bit but........... half sheep will be out in a fortnight hopefully, the other half three weeks later, so consumption will almost stop over night, just the cattle then. Fingers crossed for an early spring. Is there a praying smiley?
