Our big ram has escaped. The bugger has pushed the staples out of a post and got in with the ewes and ewe lambs.

My wife saw him serving an old pet ewe (she’s 10 years old) and she was happy, standing for him, so I’m a bit bothered.

Although we’ve kept them for the last six years I don’t actually know if Hamps can breed out of traditional seasons.

Should we be keeping an eye out for anything showing signs of lambing in 5 months, or should it all be fine?

I suppose we could scan in 80 days.

Very unlikely anything will happen, unless there is a bit of Dorset in them!

Yes Hampshires will breed for most of the year, we've lambed them in December without sponging.

I took 6 New Year born lambs into Farmers Fresh 12 days ago. Three U grades, three R grades and the best came to £144. Cracking.

If it's any consolation Pete, our December lambing Suffolk crosses had a visit from the tups last month & we might get lambs in August ?

We moved into our place in the April and noticed the Soay tup in with the ewes so phoned the previous folk who left us the sheep 'oh don't worry they are very seasonal breeders there will be no problem' they said. Well, we had lambs from September to the following January. Just because the book says something doesn't mean nature has other plans.
