Bit of an odd one [ usual story is it gets too hot !]but my handler , 09 reg LM5040 [no air con] hardly gets temp gauge into green segment even if using for hour road trip or loading lorries . It gets no where near half way in green but also notice heater is not really working ie its slightly warm air but back in cold weather in Febuary you needed door shut with gloves and hat/coat even if using on a long term job like cleaning out sheds and multi trailers going and still felt cold . Have to add that it spends 90 % of its time doing short 10/15 min jobs where it never would get up to normal temperature .
Anybody suggest a reason and wondering if the two are connected ???
PS plenty of coolant in radiator and has never boiled . On a blistering hot day last autumn pushing up linseed straw , it did get upto normal temp ie half way green but that was full on revs and pushing for 6 hours and a hot day.
Not really a problem but keep meaning to ask on here .

Iveco NEF engine, Probably is thermostat, it behind the top rad hose on side of engine thats hard to get at i think just above the alternator :X3:

Also the water pumps are crap, bearings fail on them and the impeller is ceramic and the fins all break off so no water flow.

you could maybe have a heater control problem though, maybe the gauge just isnt that sensitive and engine is running normal could test it with a temp gun? 15minutes work and expect the thermostat would only just have opened anyway?
