Starting to plan our expansion, wondering how long of a race we would need to have 15 cows lined up behind the chute. Also how much of an angle would we want to have cows at in a palpating rail?

a herringbone race would be best would it not?

What are you treating for? We’ve put 4 bays of feeding headlocks in. Part out vet cows at milking. Bag of cake and vet with one man on recording. Job done. Only use race for Tb neck jab now.

See, I thought herringbone bone race and a palpation rail were just different names for the same thing.

Them link I tried earlier is junk and it won't let me attach files now.
So can't show you what I mean frustratingly.
Is no one else having bother?

We use the herringbone race for TB testing too. Vets idea and they love it. No rattling parts, cows have a mate = no stress. The only job we can't do is drench them.

Try doing rotary cows in a herringbone race. It’s a disaster. We’ve gone back to a S bend chute and crush for TB and Stalls for Ai, they just don’t like standing next to each other

Heard of something sort of similar with heifers that had never been put through a crush as home farm had locking yokes everywhere so no need.

The heifers were sold to a chap with robots and they went absolutely crazy in the box.

Plan is to do all cow work with the palpating rail so as to only be in the pens with cows to clean stalls and fetch cows into the parlour. Want to do everything from timed AI shots, breeding, preg checking etc. Would be used almost daily for those purposes. We also hoof trim everyday so the two need to be separate. Would be using auto sort gates to get the cows we need. Parlour will be a double 24 parallel if that makes any difference.
