Hannan shows that he's not fit to be an MEP...

As well as espousing the sale of chorinated chicken, Daniel Hannan is lambasting anyone who dares to disagree with him, using the common shysters trick of not answering criticism with any sort of debate but calling them names - can calling them commie pinkos be just around the corner?
These leavers seem to think that trade deals can be made in a few months, whereas anyone with knowledge of these sort of negotiations knows that they take at least five years if both sides reasonable concerns are carefully addressed. A country the size of the USA will always try to steamroll a small one like the UK into trade rules that favour it, and it takes the smaller one digging in its heels for a prolonged time to make any sort of fair deal, a process that takes years.

Haven't got a clue, they got us in to this mess to further their own petty careers with absolutely no thought of the ramifications to our country or it's population on lies and promises they had no idea of sticking too. If I didn't have such a large loving family I would be emigrating as soon as I could as I fear our future is bleak if the yanks get their way we will be FUed

A very simplistic soundbite, without appreciating the other trade ramifications of accepting product banned within the EU.
The US has a large surplus of chicken to shift. We send 90 per cent of our lamb into the EU.

My main point was that it's very simplistic to assume that trade deals can be constructed in a trice without severely compromising the interests of the smaller parties, and I include farmers in that group.
Our interests seem to come last in any trade talks, as shown by Fox's remarks yesterday when he said that "details " like chlorinated chicken would be easily dealt with as the last items in those talks, a recipe for not bothering to address them properly as far as I can see.

It took Canada several years to get meat exports into the EU. And when they did that was heralded as 'easy'.
But the problem was that their main exports went to the US, who wanted 'washed' carcasses, and the EU would not accept these. So the plants producing meat for US could not send carcasses to the EU and vice versa.
Back to the drawing board?

This debate is going on in the politics thread, but you do realise that drinking water has chlorine in it and most processed food plants are washed out with it (and worse) the only issue I have is use of it to make old chicken "white" , far worse things added to food to preserve it than washing stuff in chlorine, its a symptom of the cheap food 90% of the population want I'm afraid

Canada has applied to the eu for use of some sort of vinegar and citric acid wash for the Carcasses as the EU allows lactic acid washing's of carcasses to get over this hurdle

Fair comment, but I was using chlorinated chicken as an example of what is wrong in the making of trade deals, not suggesting that it's the biggest evil under the food selling sun.
