Well this is very odd and never ever had this before....had a packet of heifers due to calve February-march....about 6 weeks ago one of them aborted a calf about the size of a cat with cleansings and she had no bag on her, was not very happy and was bewildered as it was too small for the time bulled, anyway I put it in with the finishing cattle then last week noticed it starting to bag up and swell up, pulled it back out and ten minutes ago....

does everybody pen then up individually before/after they've calved or leave them loose with the others?
Only pen them up if there's a problem suck as not well mothered or problem sucking. Most of them just get moved into the pen with the other cows and calves. Wouldn't have enough room for individual pens if we singly penned them for 48hours.

Presumably was carrying twins and chucked one out early. Good thing she popped the second one out before the abbatoir run! Sounds like she will have the milk to rear it - good show.

Disaster of a Day!

Heifer had dead calve this morning! Bloody water-bag showing at 8am, checked and really tight, left till 9am then calved her (smallish calve) but she was really really tight.
Turned out calve was dead and suspect been dead for a wee while!

Go out at 8pm to check shed and one of our pure Angus Heifer calves that was born on Monday lying dead in a big pen! Only in with 6 other pure Angus heifers!
Suspect it has been laid on as still full and got a milky cr@p at its rear end!

Quick Question Guys:

How long would use say a young calve can go if it stops feeding before it dies???

Found one outside that was born on Sunday night dead earlier! When found still had warm mouth and lump of shite at its arse so I presume it was still feeding!
