Happy Calving 2017

@sodbuster I leave a rope on that leg just incase the cow were to go down during calving. It makes finding the leg easier when underneath the cow. If that makes sense. I once had a cow go down with her leg trapped underneath her belly, we couldn't get at her leg free, which made calving her impossible. The calve weight was 40kg which I'm very happy with out of this sort of cow.

All still cooking in the pot. One looking like it might drop at any time, but not really due for a week. Be a race to see if the two remaining hogs lamb before the cows start :)

90 left here slowed right down only 2 or 3 a day. Sitting over 100 percent at the moment had about 15 twins so far. Still 6 weeks to go unfortunately!

My friend William is busy calving his belties up in Dent Dale and his Dad has most of the Riggit Galloways at Lupton. William has a few more Riggit cows to calve with special lineage but here are some of his calves to date by Hatherland Finlay bred by Alison Bunning in Tiverton.

Dun heifer - even rarer

I'm swapping my Red Galloway bull Rufus for Finlay (who won last year's World Galloway Congress class) next Autumn so I am looking forward to my own calves by him on the ground in Spring 2020.

Nice to see 'Happy Calving' from Lincoln Red Cows in the care of @H.M. and @Guiggs. Is that a red Angus or a Lincoln in your Picture @Short_Angus? It shows they will calve easily! most of the time to any breed. I hope everyone looks the stand up at Stoneleigh and all the other shows they exhibit at.
