Hard Standing

Plan to make an area of hardstanding off the yard. Currently it is part of a field. Want to strip the top soil and then utilise road planings. Will probably roll down with a vibrating roller if needs be. Would this be up to withstanding turning from lorries and machinery running around on it? Any hints and tips to get this right first time?

We are on cotswold brash, so was thinking take the top soil off to reveal stoney, dirty brash which I could then put the planings onto??

You will need something before the road plainings for a solid base, around here plainings would be to dear for such a job anyhow and crushed concrete, sub base etc is much easier found and better priced. Even a good layer of rubble or bricks etc first would be better than just chippings

If it's hard underneath six inches of good fine planings will do a grand job if it's one artic per month or so. In my experience planings would be preferable to quarry t1 as at will bind together better over time. Cheap as chips too!
