Can I connect a Trimble FMX to a Hardi 5500 with just a serial cable and get section control? Looking at getting an FMX and wondered if the above is possible.

No you would need a Field IQ section control module and either 12 section switch box or signal interface module.

Is this correct? I read on other forums and can find the manual from Hardi so that the ez guide 500 can do section control if connected to the hc5500. Surely the fmx will do it if the 500 can? The sprayer has a job com as it is the steering axle version.

You can give a gps position from the FMX to a third party section controller but the FMX won't 'do' section control
without Field IQ.

I have just had the Trimble man in to look at buying the FMX and we can do section control without field iq. The Hardi 5500 is a supported non Trimble controller and will direct connect with vra and section control. The 500 and 750 will also do these functions. Rather pleased as it will be £6k less if we go with the trimble!!

Sorry to be vague. The £6k is saved by not having to have field iq. Not definitely Trimble yet but looks to do what we need now and for the future.

We are looking at RTK. We have a Trimble mast in the area.

We had the fmx screen and a simple cable from the fmx to a 232 I think in the Hardi 5500. I also got a foot pedal to do the main on off switching on headlands as it would turn on when turning at the ends. We had four 6 m sections so turned on a quarter of the sprayer occasionally. Worked well - possibly the only good thing about the sprayer!

Thanks for getting back to me. What did you not like about the sprayer? Seen one in local dealer looked well and there’s a grant out at mo. Had hardi before but the booms where poor are the newer ones any better?
