hare coursing

How can I group myself with these i lamp 20 000 acres with permission
I don't drive over crop and I don't like people doing it
But there's a few shooters lamping at night who do as well.
But like I say I don't except it. It's wrong.
Suppose iam an old fashioned experianced lurcher owner who isn't after upsetting land owners

You are one of the good guys Markbrick as are the guys I allow to lamp here - its the nasty f----ks who threaten to burn your barns or beat the crap out of you ( put a mate in hospital once ) and shoot at deer without knowledge of the land that need stopping before the law stops all night lamping/shooting and cock it up for us all.

At last a two sided reply gone shooting.
There's 2 sides to everybody's storey. I detest idiots but I've come across my share at night and my experance its shooters more then lurchers. But saying that not many lurcher people down here it's mainly the shooting fertility.
Hares are in a shortage down here and a night on the rabbits gets a good sweat on and not for the light hearted unless your a farmer with a pickup truck and shot guns on a nice warm night in September lol
Every farmers done that growing up lol
But serious to do the lamping game proper have good dogs and go your way at night you can't be an idiot and have to respect farmers permission.

There is no hares here
And if they did chase a hare what's the issue as long as iam on my land or permission and not causing problems for the farmers or land owners
I've had farmers years ago come knock on my door and ask me to get rid of the hares because of crop damage.
I would rather run them then see them shot and left

I can see why a lot of farmers/landowners have such a negative thought on (lurcher lads/ lampers) it seems to becoming a big problem round here at the moment, driving fields and smashing gates. the police are clamping Right down on it though, see them on a regular basis and with the new farm watch scheme any suspicious vehicles are noted and reported.
A bonus to the farmers i know is im there extra pair of eyes at unsociable hours and also a deterrent whilst im lamping with my lurchers..
please dont tar all us (lurcher lads) with the same brush.
as markbrick said some of us genuine lads can be of some good use to farmers not just for controling pests but security reasons aswell..

When Using nail boards there's chance of revenge by lampers there not nice people
Farmer near to me, bit of a lose cannon, has also been on a couple of holidays on the instruction of her majesty. About 5 year ago he was threatened by two poachers who he caught driving over his fields. He followed them home, then returned to his farm and collected his 3CX went back to the poachers house and destroyed their isuzu trooper with the back actor. To date he hasn't been on anymore holidays.

If those poachers live in caravans he won't be going on holiday.

I heard about a Lincolnshire farmer who rather enthusiastically moved so caravans off his land with a loader. Apparently, one of the vans had kids in it at the time.

The resulting return visit means he will be using a colostomy bag for the rest of his life.

Probably the same with any hobby that requires permission & access..... the brainless minority spoil it for the rest who do it right.
Locally they`ve started a new Farm Watch scheme, think they went out to some blokes in a field with lurchers but let them on their way as they couldn`t prove they were coursing.

We just started a farm watch with us,after 2 years of lamping on our land anything is worth a try..the fellas that lamp with us have been caught 3 times by police, and left to Cary on,as there was lack of evidence even though they had dogs, lamps, nets and a pile of dead rabbit's with them..

According to TVP they love Oxfordshire as the soil is optimum for dogs (only thing it's good for it seems!!)

Really hard to know what to do, drone will work well if we can spot them in time.

Can you not get someone to lamp the land, on the condition that they keep other off? I know of an estate in Northumberland which tried this to good effect.

The soil is relatively stone free, so good for the dogs feet. It's also wick with hares. Just go up to them one day and ask them not to lamp the land.

Subura foresters seem to be the car they are using at night , had them the other night and police say they have switched to using these as they are fast enough they can get away from plod.
