Plenty of sun and good winds here today, tried once round 7ac of spring barley after milking, but It's too damp, laid pretty bad needs some more sun and I need some more patience.

Finished a field of oats ,did the headlands of the next field , but nearly got stuck. Merchant rang up looking for wheat in the morning, so moved to wheat and had a decent afternoon. It was testing around 17%. Nearly got stuck again though, which doesn’t bode well for the heavier land .

..good weather for awhile...... forecast from tomorrow (y)

Never get depressed here about yields, good or bad, Bury the Trash - what will be will be.

Nor about market prices - always hedge a bit, chance a bit and generally hope for the best.

And my only real remaining responsibility is just to make sure that everything we have happened to have grown is safely in store to fill whatever contracts we happen to have made.

But this time, I've made a complete mess of it so far - everything we cut in July was far too early, and everything we've cut in August has been far too late.

Lost a hour due to the tail end of 2 showers just catching us mid afternoon. Managed to get 40 acres of Gravity 1st wheat done, not yielding as well as the 1st wheat Silverstone which looked pretty stroke all summer or as good as the 2nd wheat Gravity/Dunston mix which looked pretty good tbf.

About fifteen years ago Iended up in hospital with an infected elbow. In the next bed was Claas a salesman. Got talking and asked him about customer service after watching the local dealers foremen mechanic giving a maintenance lecture to a local estate manager in front of me . He said that the combine was probably on hire from Claas and as such had to be maintained to their standards. Just a few years ago heard another story about a poorly performing Claas combine in wheat which local dealer could not sort.Had to speak to Germany who said to them."tell the farmer that the combine was working outside its set parameters so we just slowed it down"
Another story about a brand new New Holland combine a few years ago which refused to start went "tell he farmer to tell the bank to release his payment and we"ll let him start the combine.

Well what a surprise decent week forecast
And
It’s ****in peeing it down this morning
Not regretting now snatching a fair bit at 20% ish and running it through the drier this last week 10 days or so
Got down to 16 % yesterday pity the travellings hard going and it’s as flat as a pancake
5 days cutting left here
And god knows how many days turning straw and baling

Well apart from the last 3 acs of OSR on 2nd August , I ve not cut a thing in August yet ! Hoping to go tomorrow with contract cut spring oats 4 miles from home . Have to be honest that for first 7 days, had no real crops ready and last 10 days it's been a case of having crops ready but in 5 different directions and all 2-5 miles away, constant showers for part of the day so no doubt wherever you went would be wrong/ too wet so being laid back I decided to say, no , sod it , let's wait for a dry day / period. At least crops are now fit and will cut better and as I spent a few quid on fungicides and growth reg , apart from looking a bit dark are all stood and should be fine.
My local "weather man" says we have had 72mm of rain so far in August, 20mm more than I guessed !

In the last 20 days we have had 115 mm , and the stubbles look like it as well ,,,,,, not a chance of drilling rape for over a week either so I might just knock growing rape on the head this year
