Finished Propino spring barley this afternoon yielding, conservatively, between 2.5 and 2.7 tonnes/ acre so happy with that. Any one having trouble with fuel. New filters on beginning of the season and half way through harvest we have had to change them. Quite a few around here in the same boat. Been told that some gas oil has a higher inclusion rate of bio diesel and the bacteria that come with it are blocking up filters on combines. Can be treated apparently! Some great pictures being posted. Good luck all.

5.1 tons an acre and not a bit gone down , amazing .
I can't get over the 14.5 % bit.....
To be fair bar yesterday we’ve been cutting a good 12h days every day since last Friday without any rain. Don’t think I’ve ever cute for 7 consecutive days! So the moisture is getting quite low now.
Just finished opening up a 40ac block which should see us at through till it rains early hours!

Wheat only barely fit here, started today, Costello, on poor brash, tough straw and combine not enjoying it much.
Region of 3.4t/ac I think, nice bright heavy sample, not got below 17.5% all day. Raining well now.
Simon not giving any settled weather till about 20th earliest.

What do you think it will cost you to dry it? @e3120
Was just doing that very sum. It settled about 23% but was tough going. Quit at 11, last 10ac cut one way as kept pulling out of ground.
16% ish will be OK for home feed, reckon 100l of gas per 7.5t load. Discounted electric if the wind keeps turbine spinning. £10/t all in? Weighed against loosing 10% by leaving in field. Cassia alongside (that was glacier) standing better and still has some green so left it. At least I'm guaranteed only to be half wrong!

Whacked another third of the rape off today

One of the most pleasant day's harvest yet...on a farm on my own with a combine and a tractor and trailer tipping in a shed next to the field. Ripe rape, no breakdowns. Only way the day could have been better is if I forgot to take my phone...

Meanwhile back at home contractor's combine had to do battle with our laid barley. I think he came 2nd as he managed less than 20 acres

Straw all baled up apart from some rape harvested today and when we turned chopper on. Three machines out still now heaping bales up and loading trailers to beat the rain. Including 77 year old Dad on his trusty old loader (not). He won't stop till we do and he won't let me drive his tractor to relieve him. Bless!

Still 160 acres flat winter barley to cut and will all be chopped

Combining Crusoe wheat today, majority came in under 15%. Yield very good but not quite Phil P's average. Harvested 230t today, all straw baled in rounds and now pessing down! Happy with how today has gone.(y)

Had problems a few years ago with something similar. Now add a biocide with every refill. 1ml per 10l and £20 for 500ml, so pennies.

YEP that's the first job in the morning. Get some bought and put it in. Just p1ssed it down here.6 mm in as many minutes so not an early start for us.

90% of my spring barley done. It was breaking down fast so prioritised over the wheat. Stopped combining at 7pm to bale 10 rows not chopped. 36 rounds bales for lambing time. A bit damp but didn't fancy turning it for a fortnight. They are only going to lie on it. Cleared and in the shed. Lots of things a compromise this year with the weather.
Barley yield getting on for 3t per acre. Moisture started at 17% finished at 14%. Unprecedented yield here.
JD1085 going very well with its "new" 814 header. Ten times better than the old 1000 series header. Doesn't bulldoze, crop flows well. Just push on a bit faster as its narrower than the old bed, but don't need to take it off every time I go in and out the shed which is a big time saving this year. A metal fatigue split has developed in the shaker shoe but it's not leaking grain yet. Hope it holds out till end of harvest.

We had a hell of a problem a few years back, we had a NH8080. Kept changing filters etc, but the only solution in the end was to drain and clean the fuel tank out. Then start with fresh diesel and additive from then on. We had the same trouble with an old DB tractor. Seems once it’s in the tank it’s hard to get rid,
