Harvest 2019

I heard a story a few years ago about a farmer wanting to buy a either a new Claas or NH Combine. He bought the Claas because it was cheaper. But the reason it was cheaper was that Claas persuaded him that he didn’t need as big a Combine as NH did.

After harvest, the farmer complained to Claas that he struggled to get his harvest finished and was the last farmer still Combining in his area.

To which Claas replied that on various dates the driver had stopped for Lunch and Tea. And that on various dates, the Combine didn’t unload on the move!

Apparently, Claas know what each Combine is doing at any time and can even switch it off if the payments for it aren’t made.

Switching it on without owners consent would be a SERIOUS data breach

They may be able to but doubt they are stupid enough to actually do so

isn't there / wasn't there a court case in the US, a class action of farmers vs JD, over who actually OWNS the data ?
was followed closely here as obviously it has implications for Aus farmers as well.
I believe JD have always stated that THEY own the software & the data & as such are free to do with it as they please ?
I may be wrong as I don't own any JD equipment

I DO know with the new JD CS690 Cotton Stripper I was running this year that it automatically updated & sent its data, including productivity & time stopped etc

You’d certainly hope that they asked you for your permission to do so.
After all, who owns the machine?
Data protection and all that.

Beats me sometimes that they sell us a machine, then when it breaks down (after warranty), extract extortionate sums of money from us to fix it.

Bloody weather , good shower first thing. I was going to start spring barley today away from home and work back. Will now be staying closer on wheat if I go combining, have no idea if the weather will play ball !

About fifteen years ago Iended up in hospital with an infected elbow. In the next bed was Claas a salesman. Got talking and asked him about customer service after watching the local dealers foremen mechanic giving a maintenance lecture to a local estate manager in front of me . He said that the combine was probably on hire from Claas and as such had to be maintained to their standards. Just a few years ago heard another story about a poorly performing Claas combine in wheat which local dealer could not sort.Had to speak to Germany who said to them."tell the farmer that the combine was working outside its set parameters so we just slowed it down"
Another story about a brand new New Holland combine a few years ago which refused to start went "tell he farmer to tell the bank to release his payment and we"ll let him start the combine.

In the middle.
Light drizzle here at the moment so we won't be cutting before mid afternoon at the earliest. At least i can get the last of my rape into store and sort out the cows that have just moved themselves home. Luckily they know the way and even walk up the side of the wheat on a track rather the running through it.

Held off Saturday afternoon as wheat was seriously wet (25%ish), showers were forecast for Sunday morning so took the kids to the beach for the day instead. Today was going to be 'go' day.

To say it's been pouring down since about 8am would be an understatement.....

Glad to have done absolutely no cultivation, if we had it would be like pudding by now!

SB tested at 18.8% just now, so will have a sniff at it after lunch, blowing a good wind here but plenty of showers about, may get lucky and miss them.
