Heavy dew this morning and fog so not much chance of an early start?, need to turn them big fans on and blow it away ?

Been trying to place where you are with all the pictures with pylons in them but now I see the turbines the penny has dropped.

This harvest seems to have gone on forever....last lap today in the beans.

Then I remembered that back in 1965, our total harvest would have been less acres than we have cut today !
and we finished in the same field, in wheat, on October 5th, a Sunday evening, I started my pre college year at a nearby farm at 7am the next day.

How did the canary seed do
It did 1.7t/ha average before cleaning, it would have scrapped 2t had it not been for a 3.5ha block which was seriously affected by residual herbicide from the previous beet crop. That bit did less than 0.4t/ha☹️
So as you can imagine it’s not broken any records but I didn’t expect it to be honest!

The good fields did around 2.4-2.5t so there’s potential there, but it p!ssed it down on some of the heavy fields the day after drilling and stayed wet for to long which also didn’t help.

Going to give it one more year (that will be 3) and see how it does, there is a margin in it as it’s very cheap to grow but it’s whether it’s quiet enough to carry on.

That’s harvest 2019 over and done with at last ?, feels like it’s been a long one but still not as bad as 2017 when we finished on the 15th of October!

harvest 2019 finished today ,not combinable crops as finished them in august, but the end of cutting and carting stuff for sale grown into the farmstead, we count grass as part of our harvest, today 21/9 baled some of the best hay of the year so day off sunday then the focus moves to concentrate on next years harvest

Last little bit done yesterday and combine back to shed. It had been parked up for a week waiting for the ground on a wet acre or two to dry out. Only abandoned a tiny little bit where i still thought I might get stuck.

I agree with what some other have said that harvest certainly doesn't seen as much fun as it used too. The pressure of it, plus young family commitments are a difficult balance.

Anyway away to do a few hours ploughing then afternoon with family.

How many acres have you cut ? seem to have been at it for quite a while .
Just shy of 1000ac this year, which is about the limit for my machine on this side of the country. Lost a bit of contract work to someone else due to the weather and not been able to get there in time, but have been offered another big lump for next year just not currently got the capacity to take it on. Current customers don’t want me to go to a bigger cut as they can’t cope with the straw so I’m considering a second machine. Finding some reliable to drive/look after it is the problem!
Also considering whether I need the extra stress/pressure/cost of running two machines?

What 2nd machine would you go for? Also how wide is a 560tt please Phil?

25’ on the 560, I’d like another 560tt or equivalent but that may be pushing the budget some! Like I say there’s a lot of factors to take in before spending on another machine.
I’d need to get the people who’ve offered the extra work to guaranty the work for at least two years, but most important though I’d need a good operator as I just don’t have time to run round after someone!
I’m only throwing ideas around at this stage as I’m also looking at a new grain store which won’t be cheap?

Finished on Saturday (I'm told as not at home this week) with beans that apparently did very well

Juts spring oats and milling wheat yields that have been disappointing this year, everything else very happy with
