Extase going off quick here too - probably need harvesting before we finish the oats, which will be extremely annoying. This hot dry weather is dragging stuff forward, I’m guessing Extase could be ready by the end of the second week in august on this farm.
Is that when its ripe or when you normal get around to cut it.
I would give it up as a bad job if I coundt Start until the end of August, we start early August and drilling osr soon after .Ripe. But it's never properly ready until the last few days of August or early September.
Still, there's always the local hero who will be leaving stubble so green you could graze it.

You chaps that don’t grow winter barley, must have a boringly long wait for harvestFrom being just towards cheesy ripe, the wheat now has distinct grains. Very exciting.
its ahorrible wait when you have w barley that wont ripen , when everyone else is going like mad. what is it ? to much n , to much fungicide , help! You chaps that don’t grow winter barley, must have a boringly long wait for harvest

Sounds like the late harvest club has another member lolWhere are u to be combing wheat early August, France ?
I find a late harvest does not mean a big yieldMassive yield. Be patient.
Massive yield. Be patient.

Dont know that massive is the right terminology but a few days later usually means more t/acre on my patch however those cutting earlier than me are usually in the t/ha club
Or just harvest a crop when it's readyOk. Be patient to avoid a hot heap of steaming green barley.
there is a big difference between early and ripe and later and ripe ,note im saying later not lateI think they is to many variables to say a late harvest is a good thing for yields .
