520 John is a late one!!? It has the top extension to the handrail around the platform!!

T reg iirc, 6 months older than our S reg 525. Didnt do that much with the 520, just odd days here and there during school holidays, chap traded her in a few years back as she was well past her best, replaced her with the baby of the 8 series, basically 5 series threshing mech with the 8 series tinwork, 835?

Our 525 on other hand, i now know inside out, back to front and top to bottom!!! She has her quirks, got a strange rumble coming from main countershaft on the last field this year, noticed drum belt was flexing a lot, tension is ok and drum desnt slip, so hoping its just a worn belt, all the bearings felt cool on the main shaft, unless rear beater bearings is getting a bit dry, as they are sealed bearings. Got to run her up with main drum belt taken off and try and trace where its coming from. Bearing to change on pan under walkers rear crank, oil leak on traction variator ram, thats about all it needs to be ready for next year!!!!

We had a similar problem to that 3 seasons ago with Howards 400! Turned out main bearing on countershaft! The bearing is retained in a recess and bl##dy awkward to get off!! Ended up using a plasma cutter!! The bearing was I recall about 40 quid!! But stripping everything off to centralize the shaft cost us about 2 days work!! We made the school boy mistake of not emery clothing the shaft to slide New bearing on, and got it stuck before it was fully home!!! And couldn't fit the large tab washer!!
One old chap who use to work on these in the sixties said he always stuck the bearings in the farmers wife oven for twenty minutes before fitting !!

did it get hot before hand? drum end and clutch end feel cool on ours, and the noise changes when you alter the drum speed on the variator pulley. Countershaft is turning at a fixed rpm, so whatever it is had to be related to drum/drum belt im hoping. Old belt is quite worn, edges are a bit rounded, its about only belt i havent replaced on her tbh

Oh, and ive got an issue to sort with the table reel pivot shaft and rams, and re plate table auger and replace all the retractable finger bushes

If I think bearings are going to be hard put on I'll boil them in oil.

Didn't get a chance to get any pictures this year of the combines working. I wwas working mostly by myself as dad wasnt feeling well thisyear at one point had the 3 ccombines out.
Any body still use an angle tray drier? Ours is still going strong 1967 it went in, and still does the guts of 180ton a year
