different to ours then, mine has a lever for the table clutch, down by side of the front concave adjuster lever!
Another case of MF over complicating things. A hydraulic clutch and a spool valve just to disengage the table when a couple of friction disc a lever and a big spring worked fine. Especially when the seals on the clutch fail and cover the traction belts in oil

did it get hot before hand? drum end and clutch end feel cool on ours, and the noise changes when you alter the drum speed on the variator pulley. Countershaft is turning at a fixed rpm, so whatever it is had to be related to drum/drum belt im hoping. Old belt is quite worn, edges are a bit rounded, its about only belt i havent replaced on her tbh

Oh, and ive got an issue to sort with the table reel pivot shaft and rams, and re plate table auger and replace all the retractable finger bushes
We discovered what was causing our noises only by removing guard drum side and I watched from the side as the combine was into crop and the belt would whip violently and pulley flex!! As we only had a very thin crop that year the combine just coped but had it been normal crop it would of been a different story!! There was hardly any ball bearings left in the bearing race!! This 400 we know cut a lot of acres for several farms in its heyday!! She has quite a lot of new parts with black marker pen part numbers on!? And we found out only last year from a retired fitter from a Massey dealership in that area that the tail shaft pulley sheared off and made quite a mess!! At the start of one harvest!!
But she only cuts a small acreage annually now and gives no bother!!
My neighbour ran a 525 for several years with the drum bearings shot!! He would grease her up every 20 minutes!! The old thing had several other issues!! But kept going until the shaker shoe shaft broke! And her time was done! But some parts live on in our sheds just in case!?

ive already replaced the drum bearing on the tail end, ie under the footplate.Gearbox end of drum will be running in oil bathed bearing surely, as gearbo is flush onto side of the body?

Only thing i can do is take drum belt off and all the other belts so its just the counterhshaft going round. Then fit one belt at a time until the noise comes back?
