Caravans and campervans never pull in. There has been many times here where I have been held up in a long queue of traffic and I’ve been in a tractor following slow cars/caravans/campervans, when people go into holiday mode they lose the ability to put the right foot down 🤦🏻‍♂️

So reading that piece, the guy was behind the the tractor for 6.1 miles at 30mph so 12 minutes and a few seconds. I’ve probably spent longer sat at temporary traffic lights! The world has no patience and if people can’t account for a small delay on the trip before setting off more fool them!
If he’d said it was 20 miles before getting past fair enough but 6! Really!!!! FFS 🤦🏻‍♂️
I’ve NEVER seen a hgv or caravan pull in to let traffic past!

He might have been behind that tractor for 12 minutes but with a maximum legal speed on an A road of 60mph, his journey would have been delayed by a maximum of 6 minutes and that’s assuming traffic was able to travel constantly at the maximum legal limit, that doesn’t happen too often on a lot of A roads with no tractors in sight

Exactly, probably delayed less than 5 minutes 🤷🏻‍♂️

M27 eastbound one morning about 7.30 -8.00 from Portsmouth Ferry port to A36 exit west of Southampton. My average speed for that in a car came up as 18mph!

What’s the story with “cycling events in progress”?

They seem to be becoming a thing round here, had some plum in a van parked in a gateway get arsey when I told him to shift for the combine and trailers to get out. Apparently he was “keeping times” as the tour de Forfar hurtled past. Seemingly something impossible to do from the lay-by 50yd further on.

they’ve got folk with flags stopping cars so the pelotons can fire thru junctions unemcumbered. Do they get permission from council for this?

just interested as there was a lot of “owning the road” going on.

Only going to get worse, new highway code rules give cyclists priority over vehicles as they are the vulnerable road user, how does that work when full trailer, country lane no room to pull over. The vulnerable road user should get out of the way to stop them getting run over !!

I don’t mind pulling over to let them by, I’d rather that than end up with someone under a wheel.

Grates a bit when they don’t bother to give a wave though.

As for the local Dick who likes to try and get his race machine tucked in between tractor wheel and link arm for a tow 🤬

I cycle and drive agricultural vehicles. I always try to see the situation from both points of view. You get stupid cyclists and stupid tractor drivers. However I am always aware that I am far more vulnerable on a bike than a tractor. And remember, that annoying cyclist is someone’s brother/ father / son who would be greatly missed if you had to remove them from your tractor tyre with a pressure washer.

As for cycling races / events, they certainly aren’t that frequent around here, although I can understand the frustration being caught behind a peloton at a busy time of year.

Usually the fat middle age bloke all in lycra that scowl's at you because he has to get off his bike due to narrow country lane.

It interests me more that as soon as he got behind the tractor he felt the need to reset his trip.

What annoys me even more is they have normally just passed a gateway or place where they could quite simply have stopped and let you passed. But oh no, they can't stop somewhere sensible. Keep coming then stop and pull bike onto verge and glower at you.

Remember @puntabrava floored one a few years ago!
