Spring barley looks good apart from late weeds. But it's actually all over the shop in terms of maturity.
Makes you think.... Maris otter yielded more 45 years ago, but maybe not in this summer.Cut gimlet winter barley yesterday. About 2t/acre and sample looks poor. Cut below 14.3% so will save on drying cost. Very small swath of straw.

It's turning out a relatively late year now.
The Drought in May and sandy soil stopped the crop reaching its potential. The darker areas died some time ago.Makes you think.... Maris otter yielded more 45 years ago, but maybe not in this summer.
JD t550 .Had to close concave and fairly high drum speed to compensate for low volume of crop and stubborn awns.
SW looks well and will prob outyield WW
Seem to remember you reported here that you'd had a little bit of rain when it really mattered.Still two weeks from cutting anything here!!
Yes, rain at the end of April absolutely saved the day.Seem to remember you had a bit of rain when it really mattered.
Been rouging wild oats past few days and would have to agree with you. Be pleased if it does 2t/acreSpring barley looks a picture driving past, but walk it and it’s half a crop?
Forecast for WB here has been for 40% of last year's nearly three months since, posted ad nauseam on several threads.Very quite on here so far.
You did A39 probably - there be dragons.Drove South Yorkshire to North Cornwall and back today, through the Cotswolds, didnt see anything cut, or close to being ripe.
So 2t/acre or £240 gross is break even? Is that with £85/acre BPS or without?Got to be in the region of break even but I haven’t totalled the cropping program yet. Rent vs sfp to balance the books
Spot on . Bps and rent not accounted in that figure. This year is not going to be good. Fortunately last year left a bit of fat to chew onSo 2t/acre or £240 gross is break even? Is that with £85/acre BPS or without?
