After avoiding most of the rain yesterday, I did rather hope we'd get a chance today, but nope, heavy over night has screwed that.
If we lose another week, I'm not sure where we'll stand but I think we'll have to start making decisions on future cropping and crops we grow.

i reckon the drought will cost me circa 3-4t/ha or 1/3rd of my output this year - offset a bit by lower costs and higher prices

we coped with the wet autumn and winter, it was hard work but we coped.

fortunately years like this ate nit the normal !
Hopefully not as farming land with this potential will eventually be a waste of time as the job continues to rationalise.

its climate more than land that limited my potential

Maybe UK farners will be the first victims of climate change ......... or maybe we afapt and change if this is the new normal

Cost structure as well - even / equally important to inherent yield capacity Your business system has enabled survival at these yields in this year - with I presume from earlier posts a break even result at worst, and possibly a small profit!! A more expensive system would have resulted in a loss and thus a hangover financially into the next year. Fascinating stuff.

Scraped some SB off the floor yesterday. Started at 19%, down to 17% at the end. Probably be about 2t / acre after drying. 4 bales/ acre ( round ) of straw.
Don't think I'll bother contacting the Farmers Weekly.

i‘ve learnt from other businesses that risk management should be any managers key aim

no business is more risky than farming imo with so many variables beyond human control so it’s even more important we limit our exposure accordingly

Although as farmers we all know we are surrounded by high risk it’s not something many actually acknowledge or do anything about as far as I can see
