The all-time winner of that accolade must surely be the Caterpillar 60 at the 1930 Tractor Trial held near Wantage, Oxfordshire (Berkshire as then was).

According to its rooky chief organizer from Oxford University, SJ Wright, then aged 24, writing some 45 years later in the 'Power Farmer', "following our agreed protocol of 6hp/furrow, possibly somewhat naively I asked our contracted plough suppliers, Ransomes, Sims and Jefferies, for a 10 furrow plough suitable for the Caterpillar 60 and, without further comment, they sent along a 4f multitrack close-coupled behind a 6f hexatrack with which the "60" proceeded to plough in an acre every 20 minutes.."

Unfortunately, after all those years the old chap's memory may have been a bit faulty because the only surviving video which I can find clearly shows the Caterpillar 60 with two 5-furrow hexatracks.

All finished, Spring Barley done about 2.33 tonnes/ acre, not great by any means, but for this year and considering all the heads on the floor not too bad I suppose and at least we have got it in.

Straw again not great, but for this year with all its problems of short straw and flattened crops we must be thankful for what we have got, which is roughly four densely baled round bales per acre.

Like many have previously said, a farming year that is best forgotten, and just look forward to 2021.

Well a very poor year, 2ton/ac winter wheat, just not enough plants survived laying wet over the winter months,

spring crops have been "imagine what could have been" everything looked promising but very uneven a month ago, the rain that followed certainly evened things up but battered the heads off the barley. Not all was lost but it certainly dented things av 2.2ton

oats not so bad where they had gone flat, anything standing were stripped by the rain and wind.

Had a green carpet of volunteers by the time it was dry enough to harvest,

but it will provide some good foraging for the ewes who will turn in there today, should flush them up well ready for tupping.

Glad to be put this years harvest behind us.

Yep. And met office to be fair. Why do they do it? Check the online weather apps in the morning no sign of rain then when it's half an hour away they give rain ....insert your rude word of choice here ....oh fiddle sticks...

its only for heat.....wont be much .. Just time to grease up the combine ..and baler....(y)

In the middle.
Just knocked off another 11ac of linseed and stopped to bale some hay. Problem is the sun vanished not long after lunch and the hay is still doggy and now i need to move the combine and my escort has gone out.

Bit more wheat done today but had to go early as had to put kids to bed so hopefully it doesn’t rain too much tonight.

A small bit of rain in April after the deluge of Feb would have really made a difference

Started my last field 40ac block of spring barley yesterday but got stopped by a heavy dew by 7pm with only 5ac left, finished deleting the evidence this morning.

Despit some interesting spot rates it still only managed just over 2t/ac☹️, just glad I don’t have to look at it any more.

Then into the canary seed which looks set to do around 0.7-0.8 t/ac was hoping it would have done a ton this time as looked quite thick! Rained off by 6pm so not happy, was coming off a 10%

Just another 35ac of canary seed to knock off and that me finished, apart from the other 250ish acres of contracting left to cut.

Finished my harvest :D, 4 days to do it all:(. If I shut one eye and squint while looking sideways at the heap, might just stretch to 1.75 t an acre of spring sown winter wheat:facepalm:
An old boy told me last backend after the beetles ate all my oilseed, and it was too wet to sow wheat, WHATEVER the weather at spring, under no circumstances sown anything in spring, turns out he was right,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,WHY did I not listen to myself?

Don't think I could afford a tracked baler to run on our moss ground! Also not really got time to mess with the straw this year due to taking on another block of land, want to be on the ball to start drilling next week.
