Has anyone been asked for magnet fishing permission?

Last night while browsing YouTube I came across an unusual hobby called magnet fishing! I'd never heard of it before. Dragging a powerful magnet on a rope through streams, rivers, lakes, canals, etc. and hoping to find god knows what. Seems to be fairly new and gaining in popularity.

Like many other members, I am constantly being asked for metal detecting permission and there are many threads on here asking for the same thing, mostly without success. I have a stream running through my land so how long before they come knocking?

Two lads on the building site back of me do it,, they have pulled out some interesting items,, firearms and knives are quite common (all have been handed to the police as potential case evidence) everything from pushbikes, shopping trolleys, general scrap.
Depending on the size of the magnet its was supprising what they had pulled out of value

There's a fair bit on Youtube. I got one of the magnets to pick up nails where I had foolishly burnt some pallets. I wish I'd had it before I started! Cost about a fiver and certainly made a tedious job easier.

Think magnetic fishing is a bit of a fad and won't last long. That being said I'm sure that people said that about metal detecting. The thing with magnet fishing is 99% of stuff found is mucky n rusty so people quickly lose interest.
You're right about the permission thing though, I live in county Durham and am struggling to get a yes. I'll keep trying though. :)

Can`t see the point myself, bit like detecting :D:D
Would need landowners permission as they own the river bed to the median line under riparian rights if my fishing memories are correct.
Gold and silver aren`t magnetic unless there`s a few bars in an old rusty iron safe!
We get magnet fishers on the canal & river in Leicester evidenced by the piles of rusting :poop: left on the towpath, mostly at the narrowest points under bridges... just off to "Grinds your Gears.."...:mad::banghead:

Be careful. Last I heard, magnet fishing was against the law. Last thing youd want is to pull an unexpladed grenade of bomb up ?

Heres Google

Magnet fishing and the law
It is illegal, and punishable by a £25 fine, to magnetfish, or remove any material from canal or inland navigation under the control of the Canal & River Trust in England or Wales, other than the Lee and Stort Navigation, Gloucester and Sharpness Canal, and River Severn Navigation.

Probably never as you’ve already said you don’t let mental detectorists anywhere near so why would you want to let people magnet fish most magnet fishers do detecting as well and it’s not that popular at all so unfortunately no easy money for you ?

Not the best answer but I hear ya. If any farmer is to allow persons on his/her field/land then they need to know the background. NorthOfTheTyneDetecting offers all the benefits for the farmer/land owner. We have a 100 percent success record ln everythimg we promise. After all whats the point in putting so much money into something your gonna pee about.

As far as the law is concerned magnet fishing is illegal. However I don't know if that is a fact for private land. I can only say if the reasons are dangerous and pass off onto land owners too then caution is the factor.

And my point was he’s been very clear on another thread that he doesn’t let MENTAL detectorists anywhere near his land so why would he let people magnet fish he’s just a sad act with nothing better to do ?
