Has anyone had problems with shearwell combi 3000 tag pliers ?

I ordered a new run of tags off shearwell and got some new combi 3000 tag pliers. I have only tagged 4 calf's with them and had problems with 2 tags not going in. The female part of the tag is not supported enough in the pliers which is allowing it to be squashed into the pliers so the male part of the tag wont punch through the ear. The only way i can get them to go in is with a different set of pliers with the combi 3000 pin put in them.

I have messaged Shearwell but just wondering if anyone else has had any problems with the combi 3000 pliers?

I still use the old automatic release pliers, even then you must line up the tags in the pliers .

I couldn’t get the new combi 3000 tags to work with the old automatic gun, the female part is bigger so won’t fit in the gun, I don’t like the new gun compared to the old one. I’ve also had a few that havnt tagged first time.

I broke the pin on 2nd or 3rd tag but since then been ok if not better than the old type , the pin is longer on the new ones though -you have make sure the male tag is fully on the pin , it must worn in a bit now I've done 100 plus tags seems easier now .

Anyone else got their latest bvd tags on two separate runs. ie not 4 tags per white plastic thing but 2 x 2... yet more plastic waste. I put a new type replacement tag in with the old pliers before I realised they’d changed and it broke the tag. :banghead:

Is the pin still straight?
Seen that before.....stops Male and Female parts lining up correctly.

Yeah, the pin is still straight, it literally only put 4 sets of tags in from new.

I'll try and get it to do it with a spare tag (not into a calf) and put a photo on of what its doing.

Had an email back from shearwell today about the pliers, the reason they are not going in is because the female part of the button tags, are the old style tag which pushes through the new pliers. You have to use the old pliers with the combi 3000 pin in to get them to work.

Here is the email explaining it better. Hope this helps other people having trouble with them.
