Has anyone spins some seed on yet

I have some barley that I might do if it gets dry enough to spray off the BG, it's untreated and only 12 acres, if it grows it grows if not nothing lost really , up to the early 1990's I always broadcast our seed , it was only when the contact grassweed sprays stopped working that we used a contractor to drill it, yields were no better

Tempted to try on some wet ground but can never get my head around why wheat will grow on the wet yard, between two waterlogged pieces of kitchen roll, but as soon as I put it in soil that's anything other than crumble , it blows.
but does the kitchen roll dry out and some point ie allowin oxygen to the seed , ? and far more light will be more availiable in the ktichen roll .

So just spin it on and leave it, ( non treated seed of course) that's what I intend to do, if it dries enough to actually drive on of course

Ventured out with the sprayer this afternoon. One heavy piece ground has taken the rain quite well, may try the cultivator on Sunday. Next door piece, ex maize (thank god we took it off a week ago) had puddles in places I've never seen them.

tbh, i would always pull something over it to cover some of the seed at least / give at least some seed to soil contact.

Thinking I might go spin on a cereal mix for "multispecies" winter cover... ground so wet I cant see how my original plan of ploughing beans in ahead of drilling wheat is going to come off unless the forecast changes significantly. Next door ploughed a field this week the drill arrived the next day, they went about 20 yards down the field stirring putty and then abandoned that plan.

apart from the slugs and the pigeons..
Need to put enough on for those, untreated home saved seed so can use lots, it's grassweed issues that might be a bigger concern, not used a slug pellet here for 12 years, they all drowned in 2012/13 winter I think

Yes I had a similar period without pellets... then last year when I only managed to drill about 14 acres, slugs completely took out 10 acres :banghead:

If it keeps going like this for another week i recon will be a case spin it on and cultivate it in off the heap . Why damage wet sodden soils with kit if conditions are not good . It works so not worried one bit . Does make you wonder what the feck have we been doing for years the cost savings are huge the end result just as good .
