The whole milk price thing will probably take ages to sort out, and in the mean time the consumer is stuck in limbo not knowing where to buy from to support the local farmer and everyone else.
I have seen they have been clearing the shelves in supermarket, so how about adding sticker, adding an extra mark up and saying half of the extra goes to the farmer selling the and half to a local charity. If you did on a local shop, PO,pub, or even farm gate basis, they are already buying the stuff in and adding their mark up, so as long as the extra is going where its supposed to, if you can persuade people to pay the extra it shows that people care and not just interested in a loss leader.
Even if this only works on a local level its good PR, would be reasonably quick to do and connect the farmer with the local community. No body really understands the Red Tractor etc ,thing a simple sticker that says if you buy this you are supporting X and Y, a bit like the sweets you see sold for charity in builders merchants.
I used to live near a Dairy Crest depot, milk has become too anonymous for perhaps good processing reasons, it crazy that a local farmer can not say I have produced this even if he needs to be part of a wider process for bulk sales.
