We don't believe that everything non British is crap.
BUT we are not allowed to use hormones in our beef animals, and we have to keep our poultry sheds empty for longer as we are not allowed to wash our chicken in chlorinated water, etc etc. It is the prospect of imports produced by systems that have been outlawed in this country that we object to.
ALL we ask for is a level playing field, and at the moment we will be far from that.
The only option we will have is to convince the UK consumer that what we produce is better in some way, or sell at a price where we struggle to profit as we have extra costs.
Can I push out my hedges to make decent sized fields use GM / RR varieties and burn my stubble please....

so your saying uk beef prices will be unaffected? ill hold you to that

I don't care a fudge, the price of any commodity will naturally fluctuate, this is not a mystery or something that has happened recently.

You need to put on your big boy pants and run a business, stop worrying about the fudging government who, even if they had your interests at heart, couldn't run a pish up in a brewery. And in any event, the next government in 4 years or so will in all likelihood change all their policies anyway.

Must be a funny life to spend it forever looking over your shoulder.

Has it sunk in yet as to westminsters future intentions for UK ag????? it couldnt be clearer from where im standing these politicians have voted through a bill to stop area payments and have voted against proposed amendments which could save farmers from competing with imported ag products of much lower standards, we will be flooded with cheap crap from the US now!

The big question is do all these farmers that voted for brexit now realise what they have done? i wished that i would be proved wrong but unfortunately the outlook is not good from here on!
It will be interesting to see how the borrowed to the hilt farmers fare, chicken sheds are going up everywhere i look and these farmers are switched on to all the best advice so is it all going to go pear shaped for the most well informed ? i would hope so but i cant see it tbh.

A lot of sheep farmers voted for brexit so we will see what happens mabye they know something i dont,i suspect in 10 years time well all look back fondly on the days we were part of the EU and didnt need to worry if it was a drought summer or a wet harvest or price crash as we still had sfp as a back up, farming is a volatile business a lot of people forget this

What we do is: COMPETE.
We grow cheap chicken and beef, use chlorine/hormones/seasoning, as required to meet US standards and send Gordon Ramsay over there to promote it. They won't notice anything as long as it's covered in seasoning as they love that, meantime we keep back the higher value stuff for ourselves and whoever wants higher standard meat.

Orr, EU will look back and say - f**k, maybe we should have asked them to stay with more input to decision making instead of us creaming the best bits off the cake...

Do I read this correctly? Are you saying that you hope it goes pear shaped for farmers building chicken sheds? :scratchhead:

Can you define “more input to decision making”?

What was it in particular that “restricted” Britain’s input more so than the input of a similar sized country such as France?

Im genuinely interested!

Best you do your own research to the lay of the land and then make your own decisions due to some of the current modus operandi. Far too much bitterness and team bravado on here to willingly get myself drawn into more of it.

The UK meps had as much say as any. Are you saying they were unable to represent the UK view point or was it just they weren't able to organise their viewpoint to be accepted. All politics and discussion are based on alliances with different groups. Hasn't Trump said recently that a China deal will put a stop to a US deal. Every country has their own agenda. UK will be dictated to if their negotiates are not smart enough. Them trade reps seem unable to secure deals. Look at Frost at the moment, thinks he can have same benifit with theEu after leaving the club as before. Why is he begging like that if they were so awful.
