Hateful job-lambs and foot bath

I hate putting lambs through a foot bath and today's effort was even worse than normal for some reason.

Ended up man handling every lamb into the bath as nothing would run through.

Straw made no difference.
Changed the angle of the race so not looking into the sun, no difference

When they were in the bath all they wanted to do was cried at one end climbing over each other.

Most hated job with lambs.

Just hope the golden hoof does what it's meant to!!

Best way to do it is run them through a couple of times with the ewes. Don't stop them in the water just let them run through. Then next time if you separate them they aren't so afraid of the water.
This is definitely the best way....run them through the race with dry footbath in every time you handle them then when you want to footbath them the footbath up

They had been through the bath and race a couple of times as dry runs. This time they decided not to play ball.

Glad it was not formaldehyde as I was covered.

Got this to look forward to at the weekend, seriously tempted to upend each one and spray with Cyclo on the offending feet, will have to man handle each one anyway as we are vaccinating and worming at the same time. So thinking some sort of lamb cradle might need to be made, lob him in and treat at leisure.

Can't believe considering how dry it is how there is still scald about.

Last year was as the OP describes so don't fancy another battle.

Probs would have been easier to let them run through with the ewes and do it two or 3 times atleast they would follow a ewe!!

As you say you got coverd in solution, one of the reasons its a preferd choice over formalin is that its not as dangerous!! But it dont half sting if you get it in a cut haha

I always run mine with the ewes, but find you always get a mob of lambs at the back that won't run if they are under about 6 weeks the first time.

Ran 400lambs through with their mothers today post dosing, emptied the footbath until only a small amount in there, didn't have any problems where we had to push lambs through but had the odd occasion where the ewes would slow down a bit because lambs ahead of them. Same again if not more going through tomorrow (y)

What size bath are you using?

Since changing from narrow race to 3ft race and bath, the job has become much easier.

Always use straw here.

Formalin.
