Haulage rate for tractor and trailer

I do some contract farming whose grain store is 10 miles away from the mill, the agents have asked me how much per ton I can transport the grain to the mill.
It would be on a 160hp tractor and 14t trailer.
I’m happy to do it so long as it’s worth my while.
How much should I quote them?

Will you be waiting hours to tip at the mill, like so many lorry drivers seem to have to do at mills around here

if they want a per ton price then you will be sitting around....
technically its not your grain so its haulage as roscoe said.....
Its easy enough to work out
is it your grain no
are you moving it from feild to storage no
is the tractor being used in part of the agricultural process no
are you being paid to cart it yes
if it looks like a pig smells like a pig it is a pig

Frightening thing now is that red is about the same as white was a couple of years back, how long ago was it that it was hovering around the £1 mark at the pumps and that included VA T

I can't haul grain two miles to central store for less than I can pay a lorry to do it. That's costing the tractor, man, fuel, tyres.
I suppose it depends if the man is being paid already. If its winter and you're looking for something for them to do, its not all bad. Particularly if they may be standing around waiting for a lorry to come. If it was a quick tip you could do several in the time you'd be waiting for the wagon to show.

Tell them you need to do a test load so you can workout fuel use and any time constraints at the delivery point unless they’ll accept an hourly charge.
