Many didnt plant winter crops due to weather in 19/20 and I am curious about how this affects ones decision for winter/spring crops the next season 20/21?

I suspect this might have an obvious answer, but I would love some answers because I am not familiar with farming and I am doing research on this topic for my job.

Thanks :)

Of course most planted less winter crops than they wanted to. A better question might be "are you increasing your % of intended winter crops as a result of 2019/20's experiences?"

More winter crops but that’s just how it planned out, not really a reaction to this year. Going to roll the dice and Direct drill 1000 acres of farm saved osr (With buckwheat and clover) as it’s going to be such an early harvest. If it fails not really anything to worry about, I would have planted a catch crop anyway, it just has some rape seed in it!

No, reducing from 130% planted to 100.

Just to help me understand, when your saying your reducing from 130% to 100% what do you mean?

My understanding: with a given amount of hectars of land you can plant, you could plant 100% of that with a winter crop, but then there would 0% spring crop that season. Am I mistaken?

What I was after as you helped point to is: Is your % of intended winter crops similar or higher to what you intended to plant in the 2019/20 season prior to the weather impact?

Im certainty getting the vibe that there wont be any 'delayed drilling' round here. i think many people will be pushing to get drilled by 1st October . once bitten, twice shy etc

2 Farms here, the one with the dairy will have the same amount as usual, all late drilled after maize and grass. The arable farm will have less winter cropping as no winter barley. Black grass control has been rubbish and I dont want WB after that. So probably at least 50% spring drilled Barley and Beans.

Would need to be all drilled up by the 23rd Sept here if it was to repeat so that won;t be happening.

Might still be cutting Jan drillled wheat at the rate its ripening

Slightly more winter crops than spring. Have been 50:50 in the past which has cleaned up grass weeds but has hurt in a run of late spring/early summer droughts.
