Have your say on how acceptable current farming practices are

Hi all, I am currently conducting a study look into 'public perception and understanding of current farm practices and welfare standards'. I am looking for participants from a wide variety of backgrounds to take part. This includes if you eat a meat restricted diet or not, and whether you have any agricultural knowledge or not. This is a rising issue in modern times and this survey will give you the opportunity to have your say on the acceptability of current farm practices and welfare standards. The survey will take 5 minutes maximum and all responses will be highly appreciated. Thank you in advance and feel free to share and spread this around. Link below.

Pointless survey if you are going to ask people who know nothing about farming about what is acceptable,
I wouldn't dream of trying to dictate to other industries how they should be run, as I have no idea about them, unless of course I had some kind of grudge to bear. Then my views would of course become biased against that industry.

Ask your self what sort of person starts something like this at 5:30pm on Christmas eve.
Are they going to sit and watch the results come in over Christmas? Well yes why else do it?
Not a sociable or family person, my PERCEPTION is that they are a lonely people hater with nothing to do except poke things with a stick.

A very thought provoking survey. If we dont ask our customers how they want food produced we shouldn't be surprised if they turn vegan!

OK, I wasn't thinking of Vegans specifically, but since you mention it, can you tell us what you would do in your business to applease Vegans, turn Vegans or prevent people becoming Vegans? Over and above what you are already doing considering you are organic as it is?
Not withstanding the fact they may be fundamentally opposed to what you are doing full stop.
Are you going to cease production and grow nuts?
Even if you could make a handful of consumers feel better about your product, how long will it be until you have make other changes because of ill conceived perceptions?
I cannot think of any other industries that ask me how to run their business.
As it is I think we do a pretty good job, the country looks well and the shelves are seldom empty, it is a positive image we need to promote instead of constantly knocking ourselves down and making rods for our own back, it is impossible to applease the unappleasable.

Done. The only thing I disagreed with was religious slaughter. The rest are important animal husbandry jobs that are generally performed to enhance welfare. Some might make the poor things wince for a minute or two but not much more than having my teeth drilled at the dentist. Short term pain for long term gain. I don't think we do a bad job by and large. We try our best within the realms of the economics and practicalities of the job. As for the morality of it all, well you could argue this way and that about it forever.

Agreed. The only thing I disagreed with was Religious slaughter.
Wondered why the questionnaire asked if cattle and sheep grazing outside was acceptable practice !!!

As a devout Christian vegan, I'm horrified how vegetables are treated.

Planted in soil only recently cleared of those disgusting inedible trees, then fertilised and sprayed with the bare minimum of products to keep them safe from harm.

Anyone would think the products used to make them grow were expensive? It's only petroleum based, not exactly in short supply or harmful to the environment at all! I teach my children how disgusting the farmers are for showing this horrific lack of respect for our God given vegetable and Palm oil food.

Thank all that is holy that the soil will quickly erode before the greedy farmers think of using our own sewerage for growing our blessed fauna food. We can then clear more nasty trees before resorting to cannibalism from the excrement of our fellow vegans.

Praise be to the blessed who eat healthy like myself, and death to farmers everywhere. Merry Christmas.

All became too hard when I came across the need for a 6 digit reference number.
Whatever the questions ultimately folk need to understand tbat they get what they pay for.
As it stands at present there appears to be a substantial element of tne population who believe food should not cost them a significant proportion of their income, They buy on price and dont really care where it comes from.
Added to that there are the new religious zealots who have latched on to vegan diets as the way forward. despite the predisposition to mental health issues which makes it likely that vulnerable individuals might join the movement and the undeniable evidence that the dietary deficiences inherant with tne creed will only further compromise the mental health of tne disciples.
The world needs a decent dose of hunger to put the need to have food available in perspective and to give the necessary credit to those who have the skills to produce that food.
I am compiling a list of those I am jnot prepared to feed. Those who have no practical knowledge of the skills required to produce grass fed beef but criticise those who do know are at the top of that list.

Done.
Obviously I falsified my location but it was quite a good survey, and as others have said, quite thought provoking in terms of what we may be doing, or not doing, in the name of welfare (and a right to express natural behaviour is of course key to this being anything other than paying lip service)

For example an animal has a tail for a reason, if we remove it then we have to take care of their arses for them.
If we keep our grass short, then we lose the assistance of spiders to control flies - it isn't so much about what we do for our stock, but what they can do by/for themselves that is important in my opinion.

And my vegetarian neighbours agree with this, and only buy their odd bit of red meat from us, as a direct result of what they see.

And I think that's great, not for their money, but for their consideration and support.

Having had discussions with vegans arguing that a rotary parlour is in fact a 'rape rack' which is a term only used by animal rights activists in the context of cattle AI, then providing lists of practices with no explanation as to what they entail and why is a bit unsatisfactory.
