Having a go...

Hello or someone that's never had a go ploughing is it possible to go to one of these events and have a go with someone's machine? (happy to pay for the privilege) Maybe make a few friends along the way. Based in scotland btw

Hi change the senerio a little and the answer will be very clear If you went to a curling competition and asked that during there match you could throw one of there rocks you would expect the answer to be NO. but there are people out there that will teach you how to do things then you can go have a go for yourself mike

@Roy Stokes runs a practice day, I believe it was either today or yesterday where people can do exactly as you describe. I am sure there must be someone up your neck of the woods who also does a similar thing? Or just go to a local match and ask some of the organizers who does this sort of thing. It's a great sport (if a little addictive!!) with many lovely helpful people in it only too eager to help novices etc.

@Mydexta this is your area

In all honesty, the best way for you to get a shot of ploughing would be to join a club. That way there will be like minded individuals who might let you use their equipment on club working days or
Club matches.

I can’t really see any ploughmen giving up their tractor and plough at a match for a newcomer to have a go, unless it’s a charity fun match although I could be wrong.

another way would be find someone local who
Ploughs, and has some
Practice ground that they might let you have a shot at some weekend.

For clubs in this area, either the Scottish vintage tractor and engine club (svtec) based in Perth, or the fife vintage agri machinery club (fvamc) would be the best bets locally. I think both are on Facebook, and advertise any events either there or in the local
Papers.

also keep an eye out on the Scottish ploughing championships Facebook and website for local matches in your area

Here in East Anglia there were many events which are for the not quite professional ploughman. just check before you turn up with your rusty boards and tractor you borrowed from your local stockman :ROFLMAO:

Commercial ploughing and match ploughing are light years apart. I ploughed for 50 years before I started match ploughing as a hobby and have yet to master it fully. Old (bad) habits die hard and I think it is probably easier to know nothing about ploughing at all and learn match ploughing from scratch than to think you know better with your experience of commercial ploughing.
